Who are we? Mission team is made up of members of the First Presbyterian Church of Port Townsend who are particularly interested in Missions.  Many have been missionaries themselves.  What do we do? In addition to managing funds designated for mission projects, the Mission Team works to establish relationships with the people we support.  
  • By learning more about these people

  • By praying for them and asking for their prayers for us.

  • By making arrangements for visits from missionaries and recipients of our assistance, either in a special event or as part of our worship. 

  • By encouraging travel to places that we support, so that we can be enriched by those we choose to help.

 

How are our mission projects funded? Each year 10% of the church's annual operating budget is given to support Missions.  This money is allocated each year to on-going mission projects.  Through out the year, special requests are made to the congregation as needs arise.  This results in generous giving often reaching greater than 20% and in 2008 exceeded 30%.  How is a mission project elected for our support? A short form is available for application for funding. Use this link for a printable form. The Mission Team will use this information to determine whether or not it fits with our goals.  The Mission Team will also arrange a meeting with the requesting entity, and arrange an opportunity to speak to the congregation as well.
